Minneapolis affordable housing celebrates construction milestone

A new two phase affordable intergenerational housing development is celebrating the beginning of construction in Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood.
Ecumen, a nonprofit provider of senior housing and services, is partnered with developers Lupe Development Partners and Wall Cos. on the Snelling Yards Development, which will transform a former municipal public works site at 4440 Snelling Ave. The partnership was initiated in 2017, and following planning, approvals, design milestones, the project celebrated the start of construction today!
Ecumen announced the community as The Hillock, a 100-unit affordable housing community for seniors in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis. This is phase one of the site redevelopment. The project will include 11 units for homeless veterans, and units are reserved for seniors earning between 30 percent and 60 percent of the area median income.

Phase 2 will add 90 to 100 units of family and workforce housing to complement the site.
Planned amenities include walking paths through rain gardens, outdoor picnic areas, bicycle parking, fitness and business centers, dog run, visiting clinic space, community room and community gardens.
