Wadaag Commons Celebrates Grand Opening
Monday, August 4th, 2025
Congratulations to Noor Companies and Redesign, Inc. on the grand opening of Wadaag Commons in the Seward neighborhood on July 29, 2025.
Pope Design Group joined the development team, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minnesota Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho, Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley, Mayor Jacob Frey, Councilman Jamal Osman and other members of the community to celebrate this affordable housing development. Wadaag Commons is the final piece of a multi-project Seward Commons development in the community affected by civil unrest following George Floyd’s murder.
“Celebrating the Wadaag Grand Opening was an inspirational reminder of the importance of the entire team’s tenacity in affordable housing. All of the amazing partners worked so hard for so long on this project and community. Affordable housing development is not for the faint of heart, but Nawal Noor, ReDesign and all the amazing stakeholders were committed to the cause. And the result is worth celebrating,” stated Christine Soma, principal at Pope Design Group.
Wadaag Commons is a transformative 39-unit housing development offering much-needed affordable one- to four-bedroom units. Four one-bedroom units will serve high priority homeless households, five one- and two-bedroom units will serve people with disabilities, and 24 units will accommodate Project Based Vouchers from the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority. The remaining six units will serve households at 60% of area median income.
With a focus on sustainable, healthy, culturally competent design, this project is part of the larger Seward Commons project and will provide much needed affordable housing to the diverse South Minneapolis community.
