PrairieCare Hospital featured in Minnesota Medicine and at PDC Summit

The design approach of the PrairieCare Brooklyn Park Hospital was featured in the March/April 2018 Minnesota Medicine magazine and was the topic of a presentation at the 2018 PDC Summit in Nashville this week.
The Minnesota Medicine cover feature, “Patient-centered, wired and with windows” showcased how the design of the PrairieCare Hospital is improving mental health care.
“You wouldn’t assume what kind of hospital it is from the outside or the inside. There are a lot of security features in the building, of course, but it also has a feeling of warmth and healing. It is well-suited for children. It is fun and playful architecturally, as much as a psychiatric hospital can be,” Pope Architects’ Principal Erica Larson shared with the publication.

Larson was joined by PrairieCare’s John Ryan at the 2018 PDC Summit this week for a case study on the PrairieCare Hospital. The pair presented on the issue — the shortage of mental health beds for youth, and the response — overcoming legislative hurdles and applying best practices in design and operations to create an aesthetically approachable, non-institutional mental health hospital for youth.
