At the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Honors event, Pope Architects was selected as the 2019 Deubener Award winner in the For-Profit Business Category.
The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce annually presents Deubener Awards to seven organizations that exemplify growth, excellence, risk, diversity, and innovation.
Since 1981, the Chamber has celebrated small business success with the Deubener Small Business Awards in honor of Walter & Lydia Deubener. The Deubeners were the proprietors of a grocery store in downtown Saint Paul and invented the first shopping bag with handles, which increased the store’s business overnight. The couple eventually sold their store and established manufacturing facilities in Saint Paul, with sales in 1919 totaling one million bags.
“As Pope Architects celebrates our 45th year as a Saint Paul business, we are honored to be recognized by the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Ward Isaacson, President. “Our successful evolution and growth in the last four decades is due largely in part to our culture focused on relationships, hard work, collaboration and having fun, with our commitment to producing high quality work for our clients.”
