Pioneer Endicott honored at PAM Benefit Gala

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

The Pioneer Endicott project team received a Honor Award during the 2015 Preservation Alliance of Minnesota Benefit Gala.

Pope Architects’ staff members Daniel Pollastrini and Katrina Liesener joined PAK Properties to accept the award on Oct. 8 at 31st annual Minnesota Preservation Awards Ceremony held during the Gala at the St. Paul Athletic Club.

Pioneer Endicott was presented a Honor Award for exemplifying “undeniable impact, quality, and vision in the field of preservation.”

The 16-story Pioneer building was the first skyscraper built in Minnesota. PAK Properties, Crowe Construction, Advanced Masonry, and MacDonald Mack, worked with Pope Architects to design a transformation of the Pioneer Press (1889) and Endicott (1890) buildings from vacant office spaces to a thriving 234 unit apartment complex. The three building complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The remaining historical features of the building including the decorative plaster ceilings, columns, Italian marble floors, and original hardwood floors were carefully uncovered, restored, and incorporated into the new building design.
