Mille Lacs Health System expansion nearing completion

The first phase of the Mille Lacs Health System’s Building Our Healthy Future initiative will be open to patients in December 2021.

As construction continues to make progress on the final elements, the design team is excited to see the vision and goals of the project truly come to life for Mille Lacs Health System (MLHS) and the Onamia community.

The two-level expansion includes a new emergency department, dining room and kitchen on the main floor, and acute care on the upper floor. Acute care adds 18 new private inpatient rooms designed to enhance patient and family experience with modernized features, ample daylight and privacy. Previously, the hospital’s dining and kitchen was untouched since the original 1956 construction. The new space will provide patients, staff and visitors a beautiful place for dining and respite. The ED components include new trauma and exam rooms, mental health spaces, and an attached ambulance garage with direct access to adjacent helipad.

The remodel, expected to complete spring 2022, updates the main lobby and patient waiting areas by improving registration, and enhancing existing care and support spaces.
