Memorial Blood Centers (MBC) has been saving lives since 1948 as an independent nonprofit blood center. The organization is expanding its services in Duluth, Minnesota by relocating its donor center to a new location with more amenities and space for donors.
The new location will open April 1 and features an expansive welcoming lounge and café/canteen for donors with a variety of seating options, spacious donor bays with state-of-the-art equipment.
The new location will be closer than the current blood center to downtown Duluth, with convenient access to retail, restaurants, and coffee shops.
Northern News Now brought us an impactful story about the direct impact blood and platelet donations can have on people and families in need – in this case, 7-year-old Lucie Mertz.
Journeys like Lucie’s remind us why donating blood is so important, and we’re grateful to be part of the team bringing Memorial Blood Center’s new donation center to Duluth where it will be filling an accessibility gap within the northland. Donating platelets takes extra space, advanced training, and special equipment, which is why Memorial Blood Centers is building a new facility.
“We’re very excited that for the first time ever in the Northland, we’ll be collecting platelets,” said Phil Losacker, community relations manager with Memorial Blood Centers.
