Flats at Malcolm Yards planning 2022 start

Tuesday, November 9th, 2021

A new housing community in Minneapolis, Flats at Malcolm Yards, is in design with plans to start construction in 2022.

Malcolm Yards is a new thriving community near the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Wall Companies purchased the 20 acres of land which houses the United Crushers grain elevator, and developed a master plan to blend a food hall, rental housing, green space, and future additional housing and commercial space.

Pope Architects is teamed with Wall Companies, Lupe Development Partners and the master plan architect, Tushie Montgomery Architects, to design and develop the third piece of the community – Flats at Malcolm Yards.

Flats is a 6-story building with 143 units of workforce or affordable housing. It is designed with amenities for residents that include a fitness center, bike storage, co-working space, patio, club room and roof deck.

Malcolm Yards’ first component opened earlier this year – The Market at Malcolm Yards, which is a 19,000 sq. ft. food hall designed by Wilkus Architects. This feature from Twin Cities Business, linked here, dives into the details of The Market.

The second component, The Market Station Apartments, a 7-story building with 210 market rate units, is designed by Tushie Montgomery Architects and will start construction soon.

Stay tuned for more design and construction updates on the Flats at Malcolm Yards. Meanwhile, you can check out these links below for more information:
