Divine Mercy School & Parish Celebrates Expansion

Monday, September 19th, 2022

Divine Mercy School & Parish in Faribault, MN held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new school building at the community’s Spirit Fest event on September 17.

In 1860, a two-room classroom was created in the basement of Immaculate Conception Church. Today, the unity of Faribault’s first Catholic schools is continuing to expand, and the former Immaculate Conception Church will be for sale. The 40,000 sq. ft. expansion for Divine Mercy will include a new school, larger parish, social gathering space, and new school and administration offices.

Dating back to 1901, the current Divine Mercy Catholic School building does not meet accessibility standards nor does it have space to be expanded. Leaders also decided that it was absolutely vital for the school and parish to be connected physically and spiritually, thus plans for a new facility were created.

The new building will mainly house students in preschool through fifth grade, with room to grow enrollment in following years. Classrooms and commons spaces will also be utilized for church faith formation classes and other church-affiliated groups.
