“The goal of the project was to preserve the mansion’s original character while elevating its function and community use. The design has accomplished this project goal. The old mansion has been transformed into a community hub that serves the entire Des Moines community. It’s like a magnet that attracts different people to get together and have fun. Removing the woodwork not only turned the underutilized space into a lively bar but also introduced natural light into the core area.” – comment from an EFA judge.
