Construction Update: PrairieCare Children’s Psychiatric Hospital

Thursday, February 26th, 2015

Pope Architects’ staff visited the new PrairieCare Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in Brooklyn Park to get a look at the progress on site. The hospital is being built by R.J. Ryan Construction and will be opening by Fall 2015.

As announced by PrairieCare, the new state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital is a privately-funded 72,000 square foot free-standing facility that will include 50 inpatient beds for children and adolescents, making the facility the largest hospital of its kind in Minnesota.

PrairieCare provides cutting-edge evidenced-based treatments, multi-specialty clinical care and coordinated treatment from the state’s largest group of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists.

The new hospital will increase service capacity and complement PrairieCare’s existing continuum-of-care that includes outpatient clinic, intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs and inpatient services. This new facility will have the capacity to treat over 1,500 youth annually who currently struggle to find options for intensive and specialized care.

Joel V. Oberstar, MD, CEO and Chief Medical Officer of PrairieCare states, “there are hundreds of youth in the Twin Cities in psychiatric emergencies who wait for hours in emergency departments or have to travel tremendous distances to get the care they need. The addition of these beds will greatly increase patients’ access to high quality, compassionate mental health care.”

Pope Architects has partnered with PrairieCare since 2009, providing design solutions to enhance the healing environment and strengthen the organization’s brand.

Patients and families receiving care at PrairieCare will notice the therapeutic and awe-inspiring architectural designs that have become the trademark of the organization’s treatment settings.
