Beckhoff Automation named as a Top Project 2013 by Finance & Commerce

Each year Finance & Commerce features top projects in the Minnesota area.  We are honored that Beckhoff Automation’s new North American Headquarters, designed by Pope Architects and built by Anderson Companies, was selected.

Finance & Commerce judges projects on “their degree of difficulty, creativity in design, innovative construction techniques, cooperation among contractors and management, and sustainability efforts.”

This is the second honor for the project after it received a NAIOP award. The 44,500 sq. ft. facility features combined office and warehouse space in Savage, Minnesota. The German based company wanted to reflect their European heritage while highlighting the high-tech nature of their industry.

The design team faced the challenge of incorporating local stone on the exterior in a modern way without weighing down the building.

“Our design team chose a more modern expression for the exterior, relying on large areas of glass and metal panels to offset the visual weight of the stone material,” said Paul Holmes, Principal and Vice President of Pope Architects to Finance & Commerce. “They developed an identical architectural language on the office and warehouse portions of the building.

The building also features many sustainable features including Beckhoff’s very own automated control system for lighting, HVAC and window shades through a rooftop weather station and occupancy levels.
