Mercy Specialty Center opens this week; next up, the skyway!

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

Allina Health’s Mercy Specialty Center, which is adjacent to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, will welcome its first patients and visitors this week.

Pope Architects has teamed with Frauenshuh, Kraus-Anderson Construction Company, Allina Health, and Mercy Hospital over the last 3 years on this exciting new development.

Mercy Specialty Center is a new 4-story, 120,000 sq. ft. multiple tenant medical specialty care facility. The new center is home to the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, specialty care services, outpatient surgery and obstetrics/women’s care.  Additional tenants include Minneapolis Radiation Oncologist, Retail Pharmacy, Suburban Imaging, Metro Urology and others.

“Patients will have access to the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute Cancer Clinic and offices for Minnesota Oncology, Minnesota Radiation Oncology and the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute all in the same building,” said Noel Laudi, MD, with Minnesota Oncology in a press release issued by Mercy Hospital.

As Mercy Specialty Center finishing touches are completed and it opens to the first patients, work on the new 600-foot skyway over Coon Rapids Boulevard is still progressing. The new skyway connects the center to the newly modified main entrance of Mercy Hospital. This interior, climate-controlled pedestrian connection allows staff, resources and patients to easily get to and from each facility as needed.

The skyway should be ready for use by March 2014. Learn more on some details of the skyway and its construction process from Kraus-Anderson.
