City Council approves Bielenberg Sports Center Expansion

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

The proposed $21.8 million expansion of the Bielenberg Sports Center was officially approved by the Woodbury City Council.

The Star Tribune reported the approval.  City Administrator Clint Gridley told the council that the revamped sports complex will better serve a wide range of users, including leisure and figure skaters, hockey organizations, golfers, lacrosse and soccer players, “and probably uses that we haven’t even thought of will draw a benefit from the facility.”

The demolition of the “bubble” will start in early April 2013 after Woodbury’s Community Expo. The expanded  facility with two-story lobby and outdoor rink will open by March 2014.  Pope Architects designed the expansion and Kraus-Anderson Construction Company is the builder.

Woodbury Patch lists 10 new features of the project.
