MEMC, Inc. is the world’s largest public company solely devoted to the production of silicon wafers for semiconductor device manufacturers. With their existing K-45 building not operating at peak efficiency, MEMC partnered with Dunham, McGough and Pope Design Group to design a new cleanroom fab building connected to the existing cleanroom to take advantage of the support spaces.

The project included a three-story 108,115 sq. ft. H-5 semiconductor fabrication facility. It also included 21,500 sq. ft. of ISO 4 (Class 10) cleanroom and ISO 5/6 (Class 1000) gray space, as well as support space with breakroom, restrooms, lockers, gowning room, mechanical and storage spaces. Some areas of the new building are classified as H-3 due to the presence and quantities of hazardous materials.

The addition was located between three existing buildings and replaced an existing obsolete semiconductor fabrication plant. Construction of the new building took place while manufacturing continued in the existing space, requiring careful coordination to allow production to continue unimpeded.
