Minuteman Press Uptown Relocates & Expands

Thursday, April 20th, 2023

Earlier this year, Minuteman Press Uptown relocated to an existing building in North Minneapolis. The company’s owner, Frank Brown, wanted to relocate to support North Minneapolis’ economy with jobs and provide more room for his company to grow its services and reach.

In January, Brown moved his company, Minuteman Press Uptown, from 2101 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood to 4024 N. Washington Ave. in North Minneapolis.

Pope Design Group’s commercial team supported Brown with design services for a partial renovation of the 30,000 sq. ft. building to better serve the company’s needs and growth. The project involved select demolition and interior remodel of the printing, storage and shipping/receiving areas, including a new 11,000 sq. ft. printing warehouse.

Minuteman Press has been the only minority-owned union printing shop and the largest Black-owned printer in Minnesota. Brown has big plans to expand the company’s economic and social impact by growing Minuteman’s workforce with union employees, a future youth internship program, and providing equal opportunities for disadvantaged communities.

“I’m willing to work with people…because I know that there’s a lot of people that we need in the industry, especially people of color. I think that’s important to be a resource to help our people find a career path and find some positive things to do and sometimes people just open up their own businesses,” said Frank Brown, Owner of Minuteman Press Uptown (Southwest Voices Press).
