PrairieCare Begins Construction for Youth Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital Expansion
Thursday, September 22nd, 2022
The 30,000 sq. ft. expansion in Brooklyn Park, MN will add 30 hospital beds and allow for PrairieCare to care for 3,500 youth annually.
Across their continuum of psychiatric health services, PrairieCare cares for around 20,000 individuals each year, making them one of the nation’s fastest-growing and innovative providers in the sector. This expansion at their Brooklyn Park location will allow them to continue expanding their annual reach in the Twin Cities area to 1,000 additional youth.
In the state of Minnesota, 57,000 individuals aged 12-17 have depression, yet there are only 202 psychiatric hospital beds for youth according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Despite the rising demand for inpatient mental health facilities in recent years, the statewide moratorium for construction and expansion has prohibited action from being taken until new legislation was passed in 2021 and 2022.
“The lack of beds available for children and adolescents needing immediate mental health care has become a crisis, and this expansion is just one way we’re hoping to address it,” said Todd Archbold, PrairieCare CEO.
The new law will help thousands of Minnesota families, and has allowed the Brooklyn Park location to expand.
“This expansion will allow PrairieCare to continue to provide and deliver the best specialized mental health services for youth, adults and families,” said Archbold.
