Pope Architects Names New Principals & Associates

Pope Architects is pleased to announce the promotion of four key professionals, effective January 1, 2022. Brock Martinson and Rebecca Frenning are promoted to Principal, and Don Rolf and Sam Michael are promoted to Associate.

The advancement of these talented team members as firm leaders is recognition of their contributions at Pope Architects and in the industry, along with their commitments to clients, partners and peers.

Rebecca Frenning, CID, IIDA is Pope Architects’ Director of Interior Design. With over 21 years of experience, Rebecca has been with the firm for 11 years and became an Associate in 2019. Rebecca directs Pope’s interior design practice, manages the Interiors Team, and works with clients and project teams to create effective and welcoming environments. She is the current President of IIDA Northland Chapter and is also actively involved in MNCREW. Rebecca earned a degree in Interior Design from the Arts Institutes International Minnesota, and a B.A. Degree in Art History from University of Saint Thomas.

Brock Martinson, AIA is an Architect and Project Manager on Pope’s commercial team and has been with Pope since 2017, becoming an Associate in 2019. Brock has over 15 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams on manufacturing, science and technology, warehouse, and office projects. Brock received a Master of Architecture and a B.S. in Environmental Design from North Dakota State University. He is involved in the AIA, Urban Land Institute, NAIOP, and MNCAR organizations.

Sam Michael, AIA, NCARB is a Project Architect on Pope’s housing team and joined the firm in 2012. He excels as a leader on the housing team, managing many of the firm’s clients and complex housing projects. Sam is passionate about designing for the residents themselves, in an effort to promote senior comfort, health and well-being. He received his B.A. Degree in Liberal Arts from Luther College, where his primary focus was ceramics. He then received his Masters in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Don Rolf, AIA, GGP is a Senior Project Manager on Pope’s healthcare team. He has been in the industry for over 34 years, including over 19 years specializing in the design and project management of healthcare environments. Don is certified by the Green Globes Initiative and received PMI Six Sigma’s certifications to help facilitate lean methodology and collaborative best practices in design and project management.
